for diluting an acid acid should be poured carefully in water and not the reverse.why?

because pouring of water in acid is a dangerous exothermic process which produces a lot of heat and may lead to explosion

because when water is added to acid it will be highly exothermic one and can cause the mixture to splash out ..or can break the glass containers.
