Let the square be ABCD and parallelogram be PQRS then,

in ∆APD,

base = 3

height= 12

Area= 1/2×3×12

Area= 18

Area of shaded portion= area of ∆APD + area of ∆QCR

Area of Shaded Portion= 18+18 = 36
