Dasara or Vijayadashami, is celebrated at the end of Navaratri – a festival which is celebrated over 9 nights.
Dasara celebrations are for 10 days and it is celebrated for various reasons across India. It celebrates God Rama’s victory over the demon king, Ravana, in the northern and western states of India. Whereas in the South, Dasara is celebrated to celebrate Goddess Durga’s victory over the demon, Mahishasura. It is generally celebrated to pray to Goddess Durga or Saraswathi.
The festival usually falls in September or October every year.
