Mahisasura Mardin or Annihilation of the Demon is the two-hour long audio drama recorded in the sonorous and reverberated voice of the late Birendra krishna Bhadara and broadcasted since early 1930's on the Mahalaya Day.

Mahalaya is an auspicious day before the seven days of Durga Puja. For most Bengalis, Mahalya is synonymous with Mahisasura Mardin programme broadcasted on All India Radio in the pre-dawn hours. In this programme mythical themes are convened through the reciting of Vedic Mantras.
