According to Valence band theory , Valence band is the one where electrons make valence bond between the atoms . On the other hand In conductance band electrons freely move to conduct electricity.

The gap between valence bamd and conductance band is much larger. This gap is simply a energy barrier or gap for the electrons.

When we increse the temperature of insulator , energy of the electrons increseses too...due to this increase in temperature electrons gain addition energy and starts jumping or shifting from valence band to conductance band...

But in case of insulator, Energy gap is much larger here... so electron do not jumps to the conductance band...so when we increase the temperarure of insulator...its doesnt show any conductivity...

If we try to give energy to electron equal or more the energy gap , insulator may burn or will stand at that temp...
