for ionic compound why is it reasonable to use to term `formula weight´ rather the `molecular weight´​

Formula weight is used for Nacl as it is an ionic compound . Sodium chloride do not exist as individuals molecules . Therefor, it is appropriate to use the term formula weight for this type of compound . For example, water, carbon dioxide etc and the term molecular weight is used for them .
