- the process given in Assertion is known as esterification.

- the reaction is given as under:

CH₃COOH + C₂H₅OH + ( conc. H₂SO₄) -------> CH₃COOC₂H₅ + H₂O

- Esters are used in making perfumes and as flavouring agents because they have characteristic odour.

- so both are true but given Reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion.
