it is given that for right - angled prism, Ray - 1 is the incident ray and Ray - 2 is the emergent ray, as shown in the figure.
hence it is clear that ray doesn't undergo refraction but it is totally refracted and given maximum value for the critical angle as 45°

from Snell's law,
\mu_1 sin\theta_1=\mu_2 sin\theta_2

\mu sinC = 1.sin90

\mu = 1/sinC = 1/sin45° = √2

hence, refractive index of medium is √2.
therefore option (D) is correct.
