Answer: n21 = 1.5
Explanation:
As per Snell's law, the ratio of sine of angle of incidence to the sine of angle of refraction is constant. Later on, it was find out that refractive index of med 1 w.r.t. 2 = n21 = sin i/sin r.
Now,
n21 = sin i/sin r = 0.6/0.4 = 6/4 = 3/2 = 1.5
Therefore, n = 1.5 (clearly, the medium is glass.)
More:
- Refractive index of medium 3 w.r.t. 1:
3µ1 = 1µ2 · 2µ3
- The refractive index, except air and vacuum, of any medium is always more than unity.
- Highest refractive index = Diamond.
