GIVEN

For the data 13 , 15 , 19 and 17 the consecutive frequencies are 1 , 2 , 3 , 4

TO DETERMINE

The arithmetic mean

EVALUATION

Here it is given that for the data 13 , 15 , 19 and 17 the consecutive frequencies are 1 , 2 , 3 , 4

Now

 \sf{ \sum f_i = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10}

Again

 \sf{ \sum f_ix_i = (13 \times 1) + (15 \times 2) + (19 \times 3) + (17 \times 4)}

 \sf{ \implies \:  \sum f_ix_i = 13 + 30 + 57 + 68}

 \sf{ \implies \:  \sum f_ix_i =168}

So the required arithmetic mean

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{\sum f_ix_i }{\sum f_i} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ = \frac{168}{10} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ =16.8}
