SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

For the mid-values given: 25, 34, 43, 53, 61, 70, the first class of the distribution is

a. 20 - 30

b. 25 - 34

c. 20.5 - 29.5

d. 24.5 - 34.5

CONCEPT TO BE IMPLEMENTED

Class Interval

When the number of sample values are large in number and are in wide range, then the whole data is divided in a number of several groups according to the size of the sample. Each of these groups, made as above, is known as class interval

Class Length

Length of the class interval of an class is defined to be the difference between the lower and upper class boundaries ( not class limits) of that particular class interval.

Class length = Upper Class boundary - Lower class boundary

EVALUATION

Here the given mid-values are 25, 34, 43, 53, 61, 70

Since the difference between two consecutive mid value is 9

So each class are of equal length

Class length = 34 - 25 = 9

For the first class

Lower class boundary

= 25 - 9/2

= 25 - 4.5

= 20.5

Upper Class boundary

= 25 + 9/2

= 25 + 4.5

= 29.5

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the correct option is c. 20.5 - 29.5
