For the reaction, C + H2 -> CH4, calculate the amount of CH4 produced when 50g of Carbon is reacted with 10g of Hydrogen.

After balancing,

C + 2H2 -> CH4

According to the reaction,

2 moles of H2 reacts with -> 1 mole of C

or, 4 g of H2 reacts with -> 12 g of C

or, 10 g of H2 reacts with -> 12×10÷4 = 30g of C

Hence C is in excess amount.

Again,

2 moles of H2 produces -> 1 mole of CH4

or, 4 g of H2 produces -> 16 g of CH4

or, 10 g of H2 produces -> 16÷4×10 = 40 g of CH4

Hence, 40 grams of methane is produced in the reaction.
