If the volume of the reaction vessel is suddenly reduced to half, then the reaction will proceed in the forward direction and more products will be formed.

- At equilibrium, the reaction can be depicted as :

CO (g) + 2H₂(g)  ⇄ CH₃OH (g)

- If the volume of the reaction vessel is suddenly reduced to half, then according to Le Chatelier's principle, the reaction will proceed towards the side which contains lesser no of moles of gaseous substance.

- Here products have less gaseous products than the reactants.

- Hence, the reaction will proceed in the forward direction.

- Thus, reactant concentration will decrease and product concentration will increase.
