For the same angle of incidence in media a,b and c, the angles of refraction are 200 , 300 and 400 respectively. In which medium will the velocity of light be maximum? Give reason in support of your answer.

From the Formula, Refractive Index = Sini/Sinr

where Sin i is the sine of the angle of incidence and Sin r is the sine of the angle of refraction.

Since, as per as the question, angle of incidence is same, this means Sin i is also the same. This also meant that angle of the Refraction is changed due to the Refractive index only.

Both are inversely proportional to each other, since sin i is constant.

There is a little mistake in the question, angle cant be 200, it will be 20 degree and others.

The Angle of Refraction of Medium ''a'' is  20°, The Angle of Refraction of Medium ''b'' is 30° and The Angle of Refraction of Medium ''c'' is : 40°

Refractive index will be greatest for the medium having an less angle of Refraction.

therefore, a > b > c, it will be the order of decreasing refractive index.

Now, Refractive index greater means the less velocity of light and vice versa.

∴ Velocity of Light in ''c'' > Velocity of Light in ''b'' > Velocity of Light in ''a''.

So, the Answer is Velocity of Light will be Maximum in Medium ''c''.

Answer:

We know that ratio of sine of angle of incidence to the sine of refraction gives refractive index. Increases in refractive index increases the range of bending. Here angle of incidence is same in every case. The angle of refraction is greater in c. It has less refractive index and hence, light suffer less bending, which increases its speed.
