For what purpose does the government use trade barriers

The most common barriers to trade is a tarrif _ a tax on imports tarrif rase the price of imports goods . Another common barrier to trade is a government subsidy to a particular domestic industry. subsidies make those goods cheaper to produce than in foreign markets.
