Bholi's father was government worker. The tehsildar of the village insisted that bholi's father send her to the newly built school so as the set up an example for the rest of the village. Though initially her mother strong opposed it in the fear that no one would marry Bholi, she and her husband sent her to school so that they would hand her responsibility to them. They though she lacked sense, and wouldn't get married anyway, so they decided there was no harm in sending her to school

Tehsildar. As Ramlal’s wife felt that sending girls to school affected their marriage

prospects adversely, she did not want to send any of her daughters to school. However,

Bholi, with her pock-marked face and dull brain would not be possible to get married

anyway, so Bholi’s parents decided to send her to school to satisfy the Tehsildar.
