here
a=1
b=2
c=k²+1

when Discriminant will be zero than we get real and equal roots
SO,

D=b²-4ac
0=(2)²-4(1)(k²+1)
0=4-4k²-4
0=4-4-4k²
0=-4k²
k²=0
k=0
