Given that,

Two equations, 4x+py+8=0 and 2x+2y+2=0

To find,

The value of p if the pair of equations has a unique solution.

Solution,

The condition for a unique solution is given by :

\dfrac{a_1}{a_2}\ne \dfrac{b_1}{b_2}

Here, a₁ = 4, b₁ = p, c₁ = 8 and a₂ = 2, b₂ = 2 and c₂ = 2

Putting the values in above condition we get :

\dfrac{4}{2}\ne \dfrac{p}{2}\\\\p\ne 4

The value of b is not equal to 4. It means p can take any value other than 4.
