Forces in Equilibrium

Given :

  • Forces 25 N, - 60 N and an unknown force X are concurrent forces acting on an object at equilibrium.

To find :

  • the magnitude of the force X

Solution :

  • We have to know that when n number of concurrent forces are at equilibrium, the resultant force will be 0.

  • The three forces are 25 N, - 60 N and X

  • In equilibrium,
  • 25 + (- 60) + X = 0
  • or, 25 - 60 + X = 0
  • or, - 35 + X = 0
  • or, X = 35

Answer :

  • The force X is of 35 N.
