Their resultant force will be 2√20 N.

The rectangle is PQRS.

Given,

The forces are acting along the sides of the rectangle.

PQ = 10 N

QR = 20 N

RS = 30 N

ST = 40 N

Now, the forces along the sets (PQ, RS) and (QR, ST) act in anti-parallel.

So, the resultant of PQ and RS = (10-30) N

                                                   = -20 N

The resultant of QR and ST is = (20-40) N

                                                 = -20 N

They act at an angle of 90° with each other.

∴ The resultant of all the forces is, R = √{(-20)² + (-20)²}

R = 2√20 N

The resultant of the forces is 2√20 N.
