AB= Ladder = c=25 m
AC= Distance from the foot of the tower= b= 7 m
BC= Distance at which the ladder touches the wall. a= ?
So a^2 = c^2 -b^2
= a= √(25^2–7^2)
= √(625–49)
=√576= 24.
So the ladder touches vertical towel at a distance of 24- metres. When it slides 4- metres, then
a=20
c= 25
b=?
So b= (25^2–20^2)^0.5= 225^0.5 = 15.
Therefore when the ladder slides 4- metres from the tower, the distance from the foot of the ladder will he 15 metres from the ground.
So the ladder will slide a distance of (15–7)= 8- metres.
