Forces of 3.0 N and 4.0 N act at right angles on a block. What should be the mass of the block for the acceleration to be 7 m/s2?

Acceleration of block = 7m/s²

We have to find mass of block.

★ First of all we need to find net force acts on the block. If two forces A and B act at right angles on a body then resultant force R is given by

  • R² = A² + B²

By substituting the values,

➝ R² = A² + B²

➝ R² = 3² + 4²

➝ R = √25

R = 5N

★ As per newton's second law of motion, force is measured as the product of mass and acceleration. F = m a

➝ F = m a

➝ 5 = m × 7

➝ m = 5/7

m = 0.71 kg
