Gandhi ji started spinning the charkha himself and started making the clothes himself. His motto to do so was to unite the nation and tell them not to use western or foreign clothes because this will increase their economy and we will be defeated by them. We have to increase our economy not theirs. This is only the reason, Gandhi ji started khadi in India.
