Forests found in areas receiving less than 50 cm of rainfall are called as (a) dry forests.

These forests are commonly found in regions with extremely low rainfall levels, officially calculated as any height measured below 50 cm on the rain gauge.

Unlike evergreen and monsoon forests, these forests are characterised by the presence of plants and trees built to sustain harsh and hot climates. Such plants include the thorny cactus, which is known for storing its water inside its juicy flesh, and for preventing any water seepage by using thin leaves, which stick out as thorns.

The vegetation is found in those areas where the annual rainfall is between 50 and 100 cm. It is found in Eastern Rajasthan, Northern Gujarat, Western Madhya Pradesh, South-Western Uttar Pradesh, South Punjab, Haryana and the rain-shadow area of the Western Ghats.
