Answer:

GHMC on a mission to sanitize entire Hyderabad city by April 15Even as the entire city remains confined indoors due to lockdown, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) teams are working round-the-clock to sanitise the city shielding it against the spread of covid-19.

The teams of GHMC’s disaster response force (DRF) have already completed spraying disinfectants at all public places and sidewalks of all main roads. They are now set out to disinfect residential colonies, internal lanes and bylanes by the end of this week. The lockdown is in force until April 14 and if all goes well, people will be treated to a breath of fresh air when they come out on roads on April 15.

"It could not have been possible with the usual public movement on the roads," says GHMC's Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM) Director Viswajit Kampati.

The corporation has provided the personnel with goggles, gloves, masks and other personal protection equipment (PPE) for the disinfection operation. They are fully protected against any potential infections during the work and they are also welcomed by residents when they visit colonies to spray the disinfectants.

The municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao poured praises on the RDF personnel saying they are doing an exemplary job.

A total of 19 teams comprising 675 employees are working round-the-clock in three shifts to spray disinfectants at all the public places, colonies and arterial roads, the official said.

Additionally, jetting teams with 18 machines have been deployed to cover the main roads and major public places. Spraying in narrow lanes and interior areas is also being done by vehicles retro-fitted with power spraying mechanisms.

“All major thoroughfares and public places have been covered and now the DRF teams are heading to colonies for spraying disinfectants. Our target is to cover the entire city before the end of the lockdown period,” Viswajit said.

While manual teams are spraying disinfectants in colonies and slums, three specialised tankers are deployed for spraying of disinfectant in high risk areas like hospitals. “We are also ensuring that our personnel are safe and protected in their line of duty by providing world class personal protection equipment,” he said.

Before the operation was started, in the wake of the coronavirus scare, the DRF personnel were trained in the use of spraying machines and respirators for three days. The personnel are equipped with advanced chemical resistant suits, gum boots and anti-fogging goggles.
