Emp, has he started the letter with "Sir" or "Dear Sir"? If it's the latter, I'd say that in itself is wrong: he presumably knows the teacher's name. If he's just written "Sir" as a salutation, then to be honest I don't know what I'd put as a valediction - it sounds as though it might require one of those old-style phrases beginning "I remain, Sir, your ..."

I think he should probably have started the letter "Dear Mr Smith" and signed it off (if he's writing in BrE) with "Yours sincerely". please mark it as a brainlist answer
