Clearly, DC = AB = 26 cm.

Now, in right triangle DEC, we have:

DE = √DC – CE = √(26) – (10)

= √(26 +10)(26 - 10) cm = √36 x 16 cm

= (6 x 4) cm = 24 cm.

- Area of ∆DEC

 \frac{1}{2}  \times DE × CE

( \frac{1}{2}  \times 24 \times 10)cm  {}^{2}  = 120cm {}^{2}

Area of rect. ABCD = (45 x 26) cm² = 1170 cm².

:. Area of the shaded region

= (area of rect. ABCD) - (area of ADEC)

= (1170 - 120) cm²= 1050 cm²
