In relative motion , we have to take out velocity with respect to some object.


Let there be 2 objects ‘ a ‘ and ‘b ‘moving towards each other , So their relative velocity will be :-


⇒ Va = velocity of a

⇒ Vb = velocity of b


Their relative velocity will be :-


⇒ Vab = velocity of a with respect to b .


⇒ Vab = velocity of b with respect to b For e.g.)=> particle X is moving with a speed of 10m/sec towards right and another particle Y is moving towards X with velocity of 12 m/sec so their velocity of approach will be ⇒ Vx = + 10 m/s and Vy = -12 m/s Relative velocity Vxy = Va - Vb = 22 m/s .
