Completing square method means

take the coefficient of variable x and divide it by 2 and the find the square of that value..

simply, -->

(coefficient \: of \: x \div 2) ^{2}

then add and subtract the value which is got from the above equation to the question to be solved...
you should take the coefficient of x not of other higher powers of x like x^2..

Hope this will help you..

thankyou..
