actually formula of lens
1/v - 1/u =(d-1){1/R1 - 1/R2}
but 1/f =(d -1){ 1/R1 - 1/R 2}
so,
1/v - 1/u =1/f
where
u =object distance from pole of lens
v =image distance from pole of lens
f = focal length
focal length is positive for convex lens and negative for concave lens .

so,
1/v - 1/u =1/f
