Speed is defined as the ratio of distance travelled by a body into the given time.

Speed = Distance/ Time.

The SI unit of speed is metre per second.

In CGS system the speed is measured in Centimetres per second.

Generally for the moving vehicles we use speed in the terms of kilometres per hour.

Speed is a scalar quantity, it means that speed has only magnitude. It has no direction.

Speed can be always positive.

There are mainly four types of speed :

• Uniform Speed or Variable Speed

• Non Uniform or Variable Speed

• Average Speed

• Instantaneous Speed.
