You can use this formula with any polygon to find out how many diagonals it has without having to draw and count all of them. The formula is n(n - 3)/2, where n is your number of sides. So, a rectangle has an n of 4 because it has 4 sides.

Light1729: You should have given its proof too
abhinav46: take a rectangle , it has 4 side take the formula 4(4-3)/2 = 2
Light1729: thats not a proof
Light1729: thats a verification

n (n-3)/2

n= sides.

Ex: Find the number of diagonals in a regular hexagon.

= n (n-3)/2

= 6 (6-3)/2

= 6 (3)/2

= 18/2

= 9.
