In general, Fuels are classified as Renewable Energy Source and Non-Renewable source. 

Fossil fuels comes under Non-Renewable source as it takes millions of years to replace them with new. This is one of the main reason that we need to look for alternatives to Fossil fuels. 

Along with non-renewable property, these fuels also contributes heavily to global warming by increase in pollutants, aerosols etc.
