Four elements P, Q, R and S it have atomic number is it 12, 13, 14 and 15 respectively answer the following question give reason classify these element as metal and non-metal
Answers
Hey buddy here is your answer.
This answer is 1000% correct.
First see, the elements which loses electron are called metals amd the elements which gain electron are called non-metals.
Elememt P - The element P has atomic number 12. So the atomic configuration is 2, 8, 2. So the valency of the element P is 2. Which shows it will loose the electron therefore it is a metal. And this metal is Mg (Magnesium).
Element Q - The element Q has atomic number 13 so the atomic configuration is 2, 8, 3. So its valency is 3 which can be loose, therefore it is a metal. And this metal is Al (Aluminium).
Element R - The atomic number of element R is 14. So the atomic configuration is 2, 8, 4.As this element cant loose electron because a lot of power would be required to loose the electron and it cant gain electron because it will not be able to carry extra 4 atoms. Therefore the element is semi-metal. This element has the property of metals as well as non-metals. And this element is B (Boron).
Elememt S - The element S has atomic number 15. So the electric configuration is 2, 8, 5. Now this elememt will loose electron because it will not be able to carry 3 extra electrons. So it is a non-metal.The element is P (Phosporous).
See, the element having valency 1, 2,3 are metals whereas the elements having valency 5, 6, 7 are non-metals.Whereas the elements having valency 4 cant be fully determined because some are metals whereas some are non metals.
And the elements having valency 0 are gases which dont react at all, those are also called noble gases.
Metals and non metals form ionic bonds whereas 4 valency elements form covalent bonds.
