HCl is highly corrosive liquid.The role of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, along with the other gastric juices, is to break down foods and cause the release of enzymes that further aid digestion. HCl also protects the body from illness by killing pathogens commonly found on foods.

Due to HCL in stomach :1. Gastric juices become acidic in nature.
2 . Protein is digested due to the presence of HCL.
3. It kills bacteria which may enter the stomach with food.
4. It also causes the erosion of inner lining of stomach leading to the formation of ulcers...
