A nucleus with higher mass is formed in nuclear fusion. For example, in the sun Hydrogen combines to form Helium. A nucleus with more mass has more mass defect than a nucleus of less mass. So in the example, Helium will have more mass defect than hydrogen. According to Einstein's equation, Helium would have more BE per nucleon. So the daughter nucleus would have higher binding energy.
