Four square flower beds of side 1 m 50 cm are dug on a rectangular
8 m long and 6 m 50 cm wide. What is the area of the remaining part of land?

Area of the remaining part of the land = 43m^2

area of 1 square flower bed = a^2

a = 1.5

area of 1 square flower bed  = (1.5)^2

                                              = 2.25 m^2  

then,  

the area of 4 square flower bed = 4 x 2.25

                                                      = 9 m^2  → (a1)

area of the total rectangular land = l x b

l = 8

b = 6.5

area of the total rectangular land = 8 x (6.5)

                                                       = 52 m^2  →(a2)

area of the remaining land = a2 - a1

                                            = 52 - 9

                                            = 43 m^2
