Step-by-step explanation:

My family, and probably yours, too, has its own little words which have weird meanings. We all understand them exactly, but outsiders have to learn, although we try not to use them when we have company.

Blowfish: Unnamed persons in a group, in use way before Hootie and the Blowfish. Example: Make these blowfish get out of my way.

Octagon: Any closed space from which it's difficult or slow to exit. Example: I hate this mall's octagon (in this case, a parking garage); you can't even see the exits until you're past them.

Tundra: Any outdoor space which isn't a road once it's coated with snow. Example: Get your boots on and hit the tundra; somebody's got to fill the bird feeder.

Maroon: An insult which plays on the word 'moron.' Example: Look at that lady turning left from the right lane. What a maroon.
