Given:-

  • Four years ago,balu's age was 3 times biju's age.
  • After 2 years it would be just double .

To find:-

  • Their present age.

Solution:-

Let present age of balu = x

And present age of biju=y.

4 yrs ago :-

Age of balu = (x-4)

Age of biju = (y-4)

After 2 yrs:-

Age of balu = x + 2

Age of biju = y +2

Acc to question :-

Given that,

❥ Balu's age = 3 times of biju's age 4 years ago .

=> (x-4)=3(y-4)

=> x-4 = 3y - 12

=> x-3y = -8 .........(1)

❥ After 2 yrs it would be double .

=> (x+2)=2(y+2)

=> x+2 = 2y +4

=> x-2y = 2 ..........(2)

Solving eqn (1)&(2) :-

 x - 3y = -8

 x - 2y =  2

-     +        -

-------------------

      -y = -10

y = 10

Now,

x - 3y  = -8

x - 3(10) = -8

x =  30 - 8

x = 22.

And we're done !

Therefore ,

Age of balu = 22 years.

Age of biju = 10 years.
