Solution :-

Let us assume that, each person can do 1 unit of work per day .

So,

→ 14 person can do = 1 * 14 = 14 units / day

then,

→ In 18 days 14 person can do = 18 * 14 = 252 units = Total work .

Now,

→ In first 5 days , 14 persons completed = 5 * 14 * 1 = 70 units .

and,

→ In last day, 14 persons completed = 1 * 14 * 1 = 14 units .

then,

→ Total work completed in 6 days = 70 + 14 = 84 units .

Now,

→ Left work to be done = 252 - 84 = 168 units

and,

→ Left person = 14 - 6 = 8 persons .

therefore,

→ Time taken by 8 person to complete left work = 168/(8 * 1) = 21 days .

hence,

→ Time taken to complete the work = 5 + 21 + 1 = 27 days (Ans.)

∴ The work got completed in 27 days .
