1793 - 1794 was known as "reign of terror" because it was the Maximilian Robesspirre ruled France who was earlier the leader of Jacobin club. When he came into power he started punishing the people by giving guillotine to whom he found the enemies of democracy. It included the members of clergy and noble community. He also did not spare the people of his own club whom he saw driving towards monarchial form of government.
