whenever objects fall towards the Earth under gravitational force alone ,then those objects are said to be in free fall. the value of the acceleration is -9.8 m/s/s² for any freely falling object.

example: If we neglect air resistance, a skydiver is in free fall until they pull        their chute.

Heavier objects do not fall faster than lighter objects when they are dropped from a certain height if there is no resistance from the air. So, if you were in a vacuum, the two thing would fall at the same rate.this is due to acceleration due to gravity.
