Oscar-Claude Monet , the French painter was born on 14th November in the year 1840.

He was the leader, initiator and advocator of the Impressionist style. He was regarded as the pioneer of French Impressionist painting. The word "Impressionism" was taken from his painting title Impression, soleil levant.  The painting was showcased in one of the exhibition held in 1874 during the first independent exhibitions mounted by him and his associates.

He showcased seven pastels and four oil paintings in the exhibition. His paintings were also exhibited which included The Luncheon, which starred Camille Doncieux and Jean Monet. This painting was rejected by the Paris Salon in 1870. His other paintings included Boulevard des Capucines which featured the painting of the boulevard done from the Nadar`s the photographer Apartment 35.
