Emile Zola was the French writer and activist who saved Alfred Dreyfus.

In last decade of 19th century and early 20th century, Alfred Dreyfus, a Jewish captain in French artillery was falsely convicted of transferring military secrets to the Germans. But he was defended by Emile Zola who published an open letter (titled "J'Accuse...!") in a leading French newspaper in which he defended Alfred Dreyfus and accused the French military of a major cover-up in the case.
