Friends help me plzzz... Explain these lines from The Dear Departed...
Mrs Slater: I am sure he washed regularly enough.
Mrs Jordan: If he did take "a drop too much at times", we will not dwell on it, now.

This statement is an irony.

Mrs Elizabeth Jordan is referring to Abel Merryweather's drinking habit (he used to go to the Ring O'bells to drink).

Therefore, she is saying that even if he was an alcohol and may as well have died from it, there was no use in dwelling over it now.

hope this helps! Happy Holi!

HellostudyFriend: Thanks a lot. But could you please tell what does Mrs. Slater mean?
valluborse: She means that Abel was capable of taking the ''alcohol'' and could handle it.
HellostudyFriend: Okay, thanks once again.
