Calcination is a process in which a carbonate ore is heated below its melting point in the absence of air to convert it into metal oxide.


Eg: ZnCO3 (s)➡ZnO (s)+CO2 (g)

Calcination is the process of concentration of ore by converting it to respective oxide by heating the ore below its melting point in the absence of air to remove volatile impurities. Usually the sulphide ores is converted to oxide before reduction.
