Friendship Runs Deeper Than Flattery

Bella was looking forward to getting back to school after her summer break. She was really excited to boast to her best friend, Andrea, about her birthday celebrations and the gifts she had received. Bella proudly wore her bright orange-colored birthday dress on her first day at school. She could hear hushed murmurs throughout the lobby as she walked. She assumed that the murmurs around her were in praise of her birthday dress. Bella reached her classroom to be welcomed with many false compliments about her outfit. Bella was delighted with all the compliments showered on her. She began looking for Andrea. She was eager to receive Andrea's approval as well. When Andrea spotted Bella in her new gaudy outfit, she gasped in horror. She criticized Bella's new outfit and told her that her dress was not appropriate for school. Andrea's unexpected criticism offended Bella, and after this incident, she stopped talking to Andrea. She spent time with her other classmates instead. However, on that same day, Bella happened to overhear her other classmates mocking her outfit. Bella then realized that Andrea had asked her to change her outfit to prevent her from being mocked in class. Bella realized that true friendships can never be based on flattery. She now knew that Andrea was her true and honest friend.

I think it is C because to imagine Bella’s dress, one cannot do it just by knowing she felt beautiful or was mocked or praised. The phrases ‘Bright Orange Birthday dress’ and ‘ stand out’ give us information about the dress; it was different and was bright orange. Hence, option C is the right answer.
