Let the river banks be C and D respectively

Given: Height of the bridge, AB = 9m

To find: Width of the river i.e CD

Angle of depression to bank C from A

tan60° = \rm\frac{AB}{BC}

=> √3 = \rm\frac{9}{BC}

=> BC = 9√3 m

Angle of depression to bank D from A

tan45° = \rm\frac{AB}{BD}

=> 1 = \rm\frac{AB}{BD}

=> AB = BD

So, BD = 9 m

Therefore, width of the river, CD = BC + BD

CD = 9√3 m + 9 m

CD = 9(√3 + 1) m
