Answer:

Here ,

mass \: of \: bullet = 50g

 =  \frac{50}{1000} kg

 = 0.05kg

initial \: velocity \: of \: the \: bullet = 35 \: m {s}^{ - 1}

now,

momenturm \: of \: the \: bullet =  \: m \times v

 = 0.05 \times 35

 = 1.75 \: kg \: m {s}^{ - 1}

Again,

mass \: of \: the \: rifle = 4kg

Let, the recoil velocity of the rifle is v m/s

Therefore,

momentum \: of \: the \: rifle = 4 \: kg \times v \: m {s}^{ - 1}

 = 4v \: kg \: m {s}^{ - 1}

Now, according to the law of conservation of momentum.

Momentum of the bullet = momentum of the rifle.

 =  > 1.75 = 4v

 =  >  \: v =  \frac{1.75}{4}

 =  > v = 0.4375

 =  > v = 0.438 \: m {s}^{ - 1}

Thus, the recoil velocity of the rifle is 0.438 m/s
