Let the number be x,

7 + thrice of x = 118

7 + 3×x = 118

7 + 3x = 118 ----equation

Solution :

7 + 3x = 118

3x = 118 - 7

3x = 111

x =  \frac{111}{3}

x = 37

The value of x would be 37.

Given

  • a mathematical equation given in a statement

To find

  • to form the equation and find the value of the variable present in the equation

Solution

we are provided with a mathematical statement of an equation and are asked to form an equation with the reference to the above statement and are also required to find the value of the variable present in the equation through suitable means.

7 added to thrice a number is 118" and also find the number,

let X be the variable which would be used to make the equation.

therefore, the equation would be

3x + 7 = 118. (7 added to thrice a number is 118)

or, 3x = 118 -7

or, 3x = 111

or, x = 111/3

or, x = 37

Therefore the value of x would be 37
